Actors
Jamie
Jamie is going to be the protagonist in our music video. He is an 18 year old guy in his last year of college and he's been with his girlfriend for a year and a half. Jamie has grown up with his mum and sisters after his dad died when he was 3 so knows how to treat women nicely. If anything, Jamie is too trusting of people, and begins to question all aspects of his life and who he his when he is betrayed by his Girlfriend. Jamie is very considerate of peoples feelings, and throughout the video, viewers go through his despair as his girlfriend cheats on him, and life as he knows it begins to collapse around him.
Annie
This character is going to be played by me. Annie is playing a similar age to what I am now, 17, and the video begins with her as happy as can be with her boyfriend, Jamie. All is well until Annie's grand dad dies, which results in her getting far too drunk on a night out with a friend and ends up in bed with the local 'bad boy'. Annie is then forced to come to terms with what she's done, and can't lie to people so confesses to Jamie what she did. This results in a breakdown of the relationship and Annie spirals into a depressive state and has to come to terms with the fact that its her own fault.
Blake
Blake will only play a very short role in our music video but he is the 'bad boy' Annie cheats on Jamie with. He will be exposed as the 'villain' in our music video as he almost takes advantage of Annie and ruins her loving relationship with Jamie. He notices her vulnerability since her granddad has died and takes advantage of that. Annie is drunk one night and she takes Blake home. She realizes what she has done is wrong but she needs to tell Jamie.
Rebecca
Bex is going to be taking role of the singer in our music video. We are going to make it obvious that she is the singer and no apart of the narrative by placing her in the studio singing into a microphone we will also change the effects on each scene to make it obvious to the audience when the flash backs are occurring, what is present.
Costume
We discussed all the different ways we could portray each characters by using their costume. For example, representing Annie as the modern stereotype of an 'emo' would appeal to a certain niche market in society, and having Jamie as a jock type character highlights the contrast and controversially breaks the social dimensions in place in modern life. However, we decided that we wanted the characters to be as normal and regular as possible, making them more relatable to a wider group of people in society. Here's what we decided in the end:
Annie:
- When we film the scenes on the beach it will be autumn, going on winter, and so will have to dress accordingly. We decided on a thick long winter coat with some thick tights. This is a friendly and secure approach which suggests warmth of the camera. This also highlights the contrast of when their arguing, and she is crying yet still wearing the same. Its as if she wanted everything to be the same even after she'd told Jamie about her disloyalty.
- When we film the scene where Annie is getting ready to go out, we decided to dress her in red, bearing in mind Laura Mulvey's male gaze and the idea that the colour red reminds viewers of sex. We dressed her in a short strapless dress trying to 'sexualise' her as much as possible.
- For the scene she is reminiscing about happy times with Jamie looking through a telescope in the harbour, we decided to changer her costume to someone who seemed to be comfortable in herself, but nothing too 'out there'. We settled on girls chinos and a black top.
Jamie:
- We wanted Jamie to have a distinguishable jumper, so that on scenes that look from a distance it was obvious that it was him and not any other boy. We settled on a stylish blue and white striped hoody and jeans, keeping the dress code as close to any other boy of the age as we could, in order to enhance the reality of the video and create a typical relationship for others of their age.
-Jamie does not need many costume changes, however, in some parts of the filming, he is wearing a tight fitting t shirt. Not only does this carry on the theme of 'normalness', but it also allows women viewers to appreciate Jamie's naturally well built frame, as the t shirt highlights his muscles. This is a controversial attempt at objectifying the man, as well as the women in terms of the camera taking away their identity.

Locations
Woolacombe Beach
The start of our music will start at Woolacombe beach where we will be writing the title of our song in the sand. We will also use Woolacombe beach near the end of our music video where the two actors Jamie and Annie will either break up or try to work things out.
Other Locations
The main location we are going to use is a house, the kitchen, dinning area a bedroom and the outside gardens. We want to set the song in a comfortable place, too show the actors are deeply in love but something changes to unsettle them. Also when the flashbacks occur showing Jamie and Annie; a happy couple, these locations will be outside in the open, we have chosen one main place; Ilfracombe pier. As this area is reasonably large we feel we can explore it in separate parts yet the audience will not know its all in the same place as the shot types will be very different with different activities.
Lighting
The lighting throughout the music video is fairly natural, with little consideration to changing it, to make the video as realistic as possible. We had a slight problem with one of the shots in Chloe's house, because we once we'd uploaded some of our filming to the computer, we noticed the lighting was completely wrong. There were shadows, of the the people filming Annie and Jamie, and the actors faces were in shadow. We had to delete those clips and after this error, we ensured each other clip was in a well lit area, enhancing the quality of image for the final product. On the clip where Annie returns from a night out with Blake, we tried to dim down the lights in order to contribute to the overall drunken, night time theme of that clip. We shut the curtains and turned off all nights, which made it look like it was very early morning, such as 4am...the time Annie could be returning from her night.
Camera Shots
We thought about the various camera shots we could include in our production, which would ensure maximum effect with each clip. Here is a description with examples of each shot:
Long Shot: - At the beginning we use a long shot to show Annie and Jamie walking up the beach, holding hands, with the sea in the back ground. This sets the theme for the entire video and the camera captures Jamie fading out, leaving Annie walking by herself, clearly looking upset. Immediately the basis for the narrative of the entire music video is set, and both main characters are introduced. Use of the long shot emphasizes Annie's loneliness, highlighting the vast beach and how small she looks in comparison.
Close Up: - Close ups are usually used to clearly convey to the audience how that particular actor/actress is feeling, and create more emotion within the expressions and enhance the viewer/actor relationship. An example of this in our video, is when Annie is on the beach, just after the long shot of her walking by herself, and the camera is tracking her face as she walks. She is crying, and the close up angle of the camera highlights minute details to the audience, such as the make up down her face and the tears falling. Not only does this exaggerate her sadness, but also creates a sense of reality, in that they clearly aren't fake tears, because the make up has actually smudged, a common trait when people who wear make up cry.
Birds-Eye View: - A birds-eye view enables viewers to see 'the bigger picture' and gain an awareness of everything that is happening in that particular shot. A clear example of this camera angle in our production, is at the beginning, where the title of the song is being written in the sand, and the camera is placed directly above the text in order for the audience to see it clearly.
Matching On Action Shot: - A matching on action shot is where the camera follows the action on screen, as if it is an object flying the exact same course next to the subject of the shot. This creates a dramatic, action based emotion, as the audience gain a clear perspective of what is happening on screen. An example of this in our work, is when Jamie throws the photo frame and it cracks on the floor, the camera follows the frame, from different positions, up until it is just about to hit the floor. After a few trial runs, we decided it would be impossible to follow the frame all the way, as it was impossible to judge which way the frame would bounce, and we couldn't have it bouncing out of shot.
